Dell Inspiron 1420 Review

Dell’s new Inspiron 1420 is off the new line of multi-colored notebooks to recently emerge. The series has that aesthetic appeal from first glance and it’s quite impressive in that it comes in eight different shades of colour. Having said this, the only portion of the new model to sport this colorful look is the front of the case. You will be disappointed to see a generic, colourless casing around the keyboard which is quite frankly boring compared to the Inspirons outer casing.

If you are able to get over this shortcoming you will find that the overall design is quite good. The quality of the overall build is impressive. Just holding the systems in mid air you can tell that the casing is properly protecting the notebook. Likewise the hinges of the monitor seem sturdy and appear punishment proof, so to speak. Upon looking at the keys it is noticeable that they have had a slight raise in adjustment, a step up from previous models. This isn’t a huge leap, however the response and improved feel when typing is definitely noticeable.

As you may expect, the Inspiron 1420 comes pre-installed with Windows Vista. The monitor is a standard 14.1 inch glossy screen and features Nvidia’s GeForce 8400M GS Video Card. The Dell Inspiron 1420 ships with 2GB of 667MHz DDR2 memory accompanied by a Core 2 Duo T7500 CPU making it quite a powerful notebook with a lot of punch.

The Creative webcam site above the monitor and features an output of 2 MegaPixels. Face detection is available as well as many other crazy features which come with the camera. Getting back to business though. In terms of space, the 1420 by default comes with 160GB of storage which is pretty standard for this day and age. The internal DVD+-RW unit is 8x speed and is also compatible for CD+-RW buring.

The Dell Inspiron performs quite well in general. On the downside are the poor quality speakers, the lack of compatibility for Windows XP and a very annoyingly loud DVD drive. On the upside you’ll find that the quality build is quite impressive, the processor is thankfully fast and reliable. The pricing is reasonable fair but you can probably find great deals with Dell coupons and discount codes.
